Demonstrating background-repeat

background-repeat: round;

Apatosaurus was a tremendously large long-necked quadrupedal animal with a long whip-like tail. One measurement places the total length of Apatosaurus at 26 meters (85 ft) and its weight at 24-32 tons, roughly the weight of four elephants.

Setting background-repeat to round results in the background image being resized to fit in the container a whole number of times. The above image is 100 pixels wide whereas the container is 238 pixels wide, so the image is automatically reduced in size so that it can fit in three times.

background-repeat: space;

Tyrannosaurus rex was one of the largest land carnivores of all time; the largest complete specimen, FMNH PR2081 ("Sue"), measured 12.8 metres (42 ft) long, and was 4.0 metres (13 ft) tall at the hips.

Setting background-repeat to space results in whitespace being inserted between the background images to fit in the container a whole number of times. The above image is 100 pixels wide whereas the container is 238 pixels wide, so the image is displayed twice, equally spaced.
